How is euthanasia performed?

The first stage involves a sedative and anesthetic injection — the exact same kind as if the pet were undergoing surgery. It is administered either intramuscularly (into the muscle) or an intravenous cannula is placed in the pet's paw to administer the anesthesia directly into the vein.

With intravenous administration, the onset of anesthesia is faster, with full effect occurring within a few minutes. With an intramuscular injection, the onset takes slightly longer, reaching full effect after approximately 10–15 minutes.

The choice depends on consultation with the veterinarian regarding what your pet tolerates better and what you would prefer. However, placing a cannula is not always possible for every pet (depending on vein visibility, size, or fragility).

Once the pet is in a deep sleep, a second injection is administered to stop cardiac activity. This injection can be given in two ways. The first option is again intravenous administration through the cannula in the paw (if possible, see above). The second method is injecting directly into the heart.

Both methods are painless and equally fast. The approach taken for both stages depends on consultation with the veterinarian, your preference, and actual circumstances to ensure the pet experiences as little stress as possible.

Likewise, you can choose whether you wish to be present during both stages, only one, or neither. We approach each case individually to ensure everything takes place according to the client's wishes—and as humanely and completely painlessly for the pet as possible.

We are a contracted partner of the largest pet insurance company, PetExpert, which in most cases reimburses the cost of the examination within 10 minutes of the claim being submitted by our veterinarian right after the examination (the owner thus pays only a 10% deductible on site).*

Euthanasia costs are reimbursed if it was not humane to keep the animal alive because it was suffering as a result of an injury or an illness that could not be effectively treated. The veterinarian who performed the euthanasia must issue a written confirmation to this effect.

Insurance companies Generali, Direct, and Colonnade do not have a partner network and cover veterinary expenses retrospectively for treatments by any veterinarian. The client therefore pays the veterinarian for the treatment and subsequently claims the paid amount from their insurance company.*

* BEWARE: Insurance companies generally do not cover travel costs and emergency surcharges (see specific policy terms).

Price of euthanasia

✅ Deposit of 1000 CZK, which is paid by card after completing the order.
✅ Transport price:
CZK 49/km round trip (3.5 t) for in-home euthanasia
✅ Total cost of euthanasia according to the transparent price list
✅ After the procedure, you only pay the difference (by card, QR, or cash).
✅ You can claim the cost of the examination from your insurance.

A home euthanasia is suitable for you if:

✅ You want to say goodbye in peace and a familiar place.
✅ You don't want to stress your pet with a trip to the clinic.
✅ You prefer not to come into contact with strangers.
✅ You are unable or lack the means to transport your pet.

Euthanasia at our clinic is suitable for you if:

✅ You are able to bring your pet yourself.
✅ Your pet is well enough to handle the trip to the clinic.
✅ For any reason, you prefer not to have the euthanasia take place at your home (e.g., due to children, etc)
✅ You wish to save on the ambulance transport costs

If you require same-day in-home euthanasia, please use the following:

What to do with the remains after euthanasia:

1️⃣ We will transport your pet and arrange a private cremation. You will then receive the urn with their ashes back within 14 days.
2️⃣ We will transport the remains and arrange for
communal cremation (a more economical option; however, you will not receive the ashes back).
3️⃣ You can keep the remains and
arrange the burial yourself.

I am interested in private cremation and would like to choose an urn:

✅ A basic plastic urn is already included in the price of the cremation.
⚱️ There is also a wide selection of urns available in various materials and sizes (some are in stock, while others need to be ordered).
